Mathex 2024
Mathex!
As soon as the bus doors were opened the rush of children clambered on at exactly 11 am on Tuesday the 6th of August 2024. Destination, Whangarei.
The bus was blooming with invigorating chatter about how the day was about to go. We arrived at Whangarei boys high at 12:34 sharp. When we got out of the bus we walked from the bus bay to the school where we had a little bit to eat and headed inside to the auditorium. The year 5s went first at 1:30pm and got 30 minutes to answer 16 questions and to our delight Warkworth Team One placed second!
Following their round, the year 6 students faced technical issues, reducing their time to 20 minutes to complete 16 questions. The atmosphere was frenzied, with everyone rushing around in anticipation of the results. While Warkworth didn't clinch the top spot, we were proud to secure a position in the top 5. It was rewarding to see our hard work pay off as we cheered each other on. The bus ride home was fun and a very quiet ride.
When we got back to school it was past 5:15pm, we were all ready to go home for dinner and a well deserved rest. Answering math problems and experiencing the thrill of the competition while being cheered on by screaming “Go! Go! Go!” was a memorable experience.
