Funky Hat Day 2024

Funky Hat Day

On Friday 23rd August, our students participated in our third annual Funky Hat Day. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of our environment and the role that we play as Kaitiaki of our local area.

Students create and wear Funky Hats and they bring a gold coin donation for an environmental group working in the local area. For the past two years we have raised funds for the Tamahunga Trappers.

The Tamahunga Forest is a significant local landmark in the North Auckland Region. It is home to locally rare and threatened species like the kiwi. The Tamahunga Trappers, which is a community based group were established in 2010 to help protect this Forest and the animals that live there. The group now can boast 225 trapping circuits over the mountain. Yearly catches average 30-40 stoats, 5 weasels and 200 rats. Since trapping the Kaka and Kakariki birds have returned.

We are so pleased to announce that on Friday, we successfully raised $559 to donate to this organisation. Well done to our tamariki for this fantastic effort!
